We started Harleys Heart Kitten Rescue, a 501c3 non-profit rescue in February 2023.
Our rescue is named in honor of a kitten named Harley, that we rescued in 2022. He was found outside in an industrial area and was 2-3 weeks old and quickly captured our hearts.
We noticed early on that he had some medical issues and worked closely with our vets, and despite our best efforts, his condition was too bad, and we were unable to save him (more details of his story are on our website and our Facebook page).
After losing our precious Harley and other medically fragile kittens, we knew we wanted our rescue to be dedicated to saving the most vulnerable kittens. Our focus is abandoned kittens found on the street that have little chance of surviving as well as pulling from local shelters. Currently, we have pull rights that allow us to take un-weaned (bottle kittens) from the shelters that are set to be euthanized, due to the shelters lack of resources.
We get calls, emails and messages daily asking for assistance in saving kittens. As much as we would love to save them all, it just isn’t possible without the help of the community. We need funding in the form of donations and additional fosters. As a foster based rescue, we need loving families who are willing to take in kittens and help us raise these babies while they get ready for their furr-ever homes. We have some remarkable fosters, and we are always looking for more that would be willing to join our rescue family with our assistance and guidance.
We hold multiple adoption and fundraising events and try to think of unique and fun ways to get involved with our community. Some of our venues, Starbucks, Petsmart, Tractor Supply and Rock & Brews.
Our aim is to have at least one adoption event per month in addition to social media to help find homes for our kittens.
Here are some of our upcoming events:
Paws and Purrs Cat and Kitten Expo (hosted by us) – April 20
Mary S. Roberts Walk with the Animals (pop up) – April 27
Rock & Brews – May 4
LCWW Cat Extravaganza – November 16-17
We would love for people to come out and support us. Maybe even find a new lovable furr-amily member to take home.
